Record Breaking Golf Day

4th July 2013

On 4th July, Knebworth Golf Club played host to our 22nd Annual Golf Day resulting with a record amount being raised for the Trust. The course was in great condition, and with fantastic weather planned and 17 teams from local businesses signed up, the day was set to be a success from the outset.

Following registration and a light brunch, teams took their place on the course for a shot gun start. Expectations were high for a hole in one on the 10th for one lucky golfer with the chance to win a brand new BMW Z4, courtesy of Specialist Cars in Stevenage. A number of other competitions took place during the course of the day with opportunities to win a holiday to Portugal, a new set of golf clubs and various other prizes. 6 lucky winners each received a bottle of Champagne, with additional rewards for those achieving nearest the pin, nearest the line and longest drives.

With the sun still shining, guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ followed by our raffle and auction with items including premier admission tickets to the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth at Ascot courtesy of Betfair, travel and hospitality for ladies day at Newmarket Racecourse kindly donated by Biz4Biz, an Arsenal shirt signed by Jack Wilshire, and will writing thanks to BBW Solicitors. It was then time for the all-important prize presentation! Runners up were announced as HSBC followed by our winners - an extremely surprised and elated team from local business, Becker Transport who each walked away with a new golf bag from new comers to Stevenage, American Golf. The winning team said “We had a thoroughly enjoyable day, at a well organised event and for such a worthwhile local cause. We will certainly be back next year to defend the title.”

Unfortunately, nobody won the BMW Z4 but this did not detract from an enjoyable day being had by all and an amazing total of £5,143 being raised for the Trust.

Caroline Haskins, Manager for Stevenage Community Trust said “It was great seeing so many local companies coming together to support such a worthy cause. Thanks to their generosity, an amazing amount was raised which will be used to fund local projects and help individuals and families in need. Here’s hoping next year’s golf day will be even more successful!”

Special thanks to Knebworth Golf Club and all our sponsors including, RHG, BMW Specialist Cars, TDI Solutions, George Hay Chartered Accountants, Server Choice, BBW Solicitors, One Facility, Fujitsu, American Golf, The Wine Society and Stevenage Packaging Ltd.  Bill Overington from Specialist Cars said “We were delighted to be a sponsor for the Stevenage Community Trust Golf Day.  It was encouraging that we were able to raise a considerable amount of money for such a worthy cause and to support the business community within Stevenage.  Our customers thoroughly enjoyed the day and we look forward to working with the Trust at next year’s golf day.”

Paul Beasley, a SCT Trustee and Managing Director of RHG had organised the day on behalf of the Trust and was thrilled with the outcome commenting, ”It was great to see businesses large and small coming together at such a wonderful venue in support of the Trust. We were pleased to be a part of it.”
