Annual Charity Golf Day 2023

5th July 2023

A debut winner, sunshine, music and a record-breaking total raised for the people of Stevenage.

We may have woken up to rain, but the sun, as always, shone through for our 29th Stevenage Community Trust Charity Golf Day. Knebworth Golf Club were fantastic hosts with long-term supporters, Tollers Solicitors, again taking the spot of lead sponsor for the event.

The Stevenage Community Trust community came together as familiar faces returned to the green, some hoping to build on previous successes, and debut teams arrived, ready to rise to the occasion. We were delighted to register 16 teams and welcome everyone with tea, coffee and a delicious bacon roll. The two tee-off start ensured the teams moved competitively around the 18 holes, and all were eager to enter our on-course competitions. We saw the return of the popular Champagne Challenge at the 14th hole, sponsored by Polystar and the Yellow Ball Competition, sponsored by KLT Utilities. Then, in addition to our other regular competitions, including longest drive, nearest the pin in two and nearest the line, we introduced a new exciting competition on the 8th hole – Beat the Pro! A huge thank you goes out to golf professional James Crabb for donating his time to the trust.

After their two-year reign, Stevenage Packaging Limited relinquished their crown to debut competitors AGL Commercial Limited, who each received a PING Golf Bag, kindly sponsored by E H Crouch Funeral Directors and Powell Funeral Directors. Not only did we see newcomers to the tournament take first prize, but first-timers Accounting 4 Actors grabbed the runners-up prize.

As we retired to the clubhouse patio, a charming ambience was created by saxophonist Tom Platter who played exquisitely as the teams and volunteers gathered for a beautiful BBQ dinner, prize presentation, charity raffle and auction.

The event raised over £9,000, which will go directly to those in need in the Stevenage community, distributed through several of the trust's activities.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of this year’s sponsors, including Tollers, Homes and Mortgages, Stevenage Packaging Ltd, Ice Sculptures Ltd, Brown & Lee Chartered Surveyors, CFS Events, Heneom HR, Austins Funeral Homes, GCIS (UK) Ltd and ARK Lasting Powers & Wills to name just a few. We are also very grateful for the auction and raffle prizes donated by our Stevenage business community, including Knebworth House & Gardens, The Cromwell Hotel, Misya Meze & Grill, Martin’s Driving Academy, Brocket Hall Golf Club, Stevenage Golf Club, Stowmarket Golf Club, Berkhamsted Golf Club, Face Communications, and a special thank you to Claudia Griffin for the beautiful photos capturing the day.(credit @claudiagriffinphotography).

One happy golfer commented: “Amazing work today, really massive success. We were really happy to be a part of it and will definitely be entering teams next year.’

2024 will mark the 30th anniversary of our Stevenage Community Trust Golf Day – so watch this space for the Save the Date and be sure not to miss out, as it is guaranteed to be our biggest yet!
