Betfair, in partnership with Stevenage Community Trust, were proud to launch the ‘SCT Athletics Boost’ on 5th February 2010.  A cheque for £10,000 was presented by Julie Cooper, Operations Director at Betfair, to the Chairman of Stevenage Community Trust, Ken Follett. This money will provide sports grants to support elite athletes and 2012 hopefuls in the Stevenage area.

The launch was attended by representatives from Sport Stevenage, The Comet, Stevenage Community Trust and Betfair as well as the four elite athletes who will directly benefit from this fund.  Stevenage Community Trust has supported these athletes through their sporting careers but a reduction in funding levels due to the recession means it would not have been possible to continue at the same level without the support from Betfair.

The four athletes consist of Neil McLellan - 2012 Olympic Javelin hopeful; Gobi Ranganathan – British No 1 wheelchair Badminton player and ranked 8th in the world; Mario Santos Costa – 2012 Olympic fast-track Canoeist; Ivan Bulyha – 2012 Olympic Gymnast ranked 9th in his first senior year.
